Truck Driver getting out of truck

Delivering Food, Supporting our Community

With Thanksgiving around the corner and thousands of community residents out of work due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, a coalition led by the NYS United Teachers, Catholic Charities, and the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York staged drive-thru food pantries in Latham, Albany, and Schenectady on November 20. Shaker Logistics supported the effort by loaning a truck and driver from its fleet to transport hundreds of boxes of food between the events.

Volunteers arrived early in the morning at NYSUT headquarters and begin sorting and packing more than 24 pallets of food from the food bank into individual boxes, which included meat, dairy, and fruits and vegetables. Those in need drove through the parking lot as volunteers loaded food directly into their vehicles.

Shaker transported more than 200 boxes of food from the NYSUT pantry to satellite food pantries being held later that afternoon in Albany and Schenectady, organized by the teachers’ unions at those districts.
