Logistics Specialist

Waterford, NY

The Logistics Specialist role is a bit of sales, customer service, and operations all rolled into one. No day is ever the same! Your primary responsibility is to establish and maintain quality relationships with customers and shippers. We need you to add new qualified accounts while maintaining your current client base. You will be finding solutions to our customers’ problems through teamwork and collaboration with our carrier services team. Once you have quoted and won business, you will then oversee the shipment to completion, all while updating and communicating back to your customer when necessary.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers and clients
  • Outbound phone calls to solicit freight from current and potential customers
  • Coordinate, quote, and monitor shipments
  • Resolve customer questions and provide solutions related to shipments
  • Maintain customer databases: TMS & CRM
  • Develop knowledge on market, industry, and trends and use it to inform your work
  • Consistently and proactively look for ways to improve our processes and operations

Must-Haves:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to successfully and professionally resolve conflicts and negotiate
  • Creativity and outside-of-the-box thinking to solve problems

Carrier Services Representative

Waterford, NY

The Carrier Services Representative role is a bit of sales, customer service, and operations all rolled into one. You’ll never have a dull day! Your primary responsibility is to establish and maintain quality relationships with trucking companies — the carriers who ship loads of freight for our customers. We want you to add new, qualified carriers to our network so that we have more options for shipping freight. You’ll be a matchmaker: figuring out which carriers are best suited to ship different types of freight for our customers, and then negotiating rates and details with those carriers. While freight is en route, you’ll oversee shipments and work directly with carriers to ensure things are going smoothly, and help handle any curve balls that are thrown (they always are!).

Logistics Procurement Manager

Directly oversees the Carrier Services Team within the Logistics Department. Responsible for profitability and staffing of the Department. Provide strong dependable leadership while working daily in the operations to ensure achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), which in turn support Shaker Logistics strategic and tactical plans.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage carrier service reps at varying skill levels while ensuring they are effectively selling freight and establishing strong carrier relationships
  • Provide extensive coaching and counseling to assist reps in meeting customer/carrier satisfaction, problem resolution, exceed customer and Logistics Services expectations
  • Identify optimization opportunities for increased carrier capacity, load sharing, mode conversion through the lens of delivering services.
  • Negotiate with carriers on rates when required to mitigate cost increases and/or improve service performance
  • Actively monitor and develop important KPI’s to ensure business objectives are being met by the department and to measure outcomes for the organization
  • Maintain and develop the bidding process, including costing lanes for RFP’s, analyzing potential business, contributing to bid strategy, etc
  • Find gaps in carrier lane coverage, partnering with strategic and core carriers to ensure service performance standards are met
  • Make recommendations and/or take corrective action to manage performance as appropriate and be an integral part of the disciplinary and termination process when necessary
  • Work closely with Human Resources and Senior Leadership to address and resolve employee issues
  • Develop and maintain a structured plan for reps to prospect and build carrier relationships
  • Contribute daily to morning huddle with department leads to discuss current challenges or needs of department. After meetings conclude relay relevant information to your team from the meeting.
  • Utilize technology to fully understand market conditions and be able to educate your team and other departments.
  • Other duties as assigned

Must-Haves:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience/education preferably in a transportation or logistics capacity
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred, within the transportation or related industry
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think analytically while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire others for success
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills
  • Proven ability to successfully provide relevant and immediate feedback in a fast-paced and complex environment
  • Proficiency in general office computers skills and relevant transportation software
