Shaker springs into the community

From community events to employee-led donation drives, Shaker Logistics team members have been actively giving back to our Capital Region community this spring. In early May, the company’s Transport division participated in Ballston Spa Central School District’s “Touch-a-Truck” day, rolling into the parking lot with one of its freightliner tractors so that kids could climb aboard and see what it’s like inside a big truck. Children got to sit in the driver’s seat, see and test out the sleeping berth, and even honk the horn. The kids left with plenty of Shaker goodies, and the event raised money for the Ballston Spa National Honor Society Scholarship Fund.

Later in the month, the team capped off its multi-week fitness steps challenge by having several employees participate in the CDPHP Workforce Team Challenge, a 3.5 mile run throughout Washington Park in Albany. Prior to the event, employees had challenged each other to achieve 8,000 steps per day.

At the office, employees celebrated National Pet Day in April by organizing a pet supply drive for the Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society, the region’s oldest and largest animal protection society. Over the course of six weeks, Shaker employees donated more than 100 cans of cat and dog food, dozens of treats and pet toys, and other supplies  like litter and flea medicine for the organization. The items were delivered them to MHHS on May 25.

“It’s great to see our team members from across the organization coming together to support our community,” said Megan Fagnani, Shaker’s manager of people operations. “Working in transportation and logistics can be very fast-paced and sometimes intense, so opportunities like this to step back from the day-to-day work and support local organizations and come together as a team are really important.”
